"...I feel that the balance between fiction and reality has changed significantly in the past decades. Increasingly their roles are reversed. We live in a world ruled by fictions of every kind — mass-merchandizing, advertising, politics conducted as a branch of advertising, the instant translation of science and technology into popular imagery, the increasing blurring and intermingling of identities within the realm of consumer goods, the pre-empting of any original imaginative response to experience by the television screen. We live inside an enormous novel. For the writer in particular it is less and less necessary for him to invent the fictional content of his novel. The fiction is already there. The writer’s task is to invent the reality."

Anatomie, A German terror-suspense film released in 2000, starring Franka Potente ('Run Lola Run'). A secret society of doctors working within a medical school do advanced research on subjects without regard for the subjects' well-being. Featured is their special Nazi-era 'polymerization' serum, which will turn one into... a Body Worlds sculpture. More prominent use of those sculptures than the 'House on Haunted Hill' remake.

Here's the Not Suitable clip. Enjoy.

On another note, the MadSci store will be relocating soon, but just across the sim border. On yet another note, the famous chair is slowly taking shape.

At last, the kink... or is it?

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Some may be wondering, where's the kink? MadScience Labs is, after all, a place you can purchase kinky items for your virtual activities. But patience, dear reader. We are exploring a theme here, and the individual items will hang together as a whole in time. Hopefully.

Let's begin with some of the bleeding edge. (Literally?) Saturno Buttò is a Venetian artist whose themes are a crossroads of Renaissance classicism, mythological figures, and medical fetish iconography. His work glorifies the surgical clamp. http://www.saturnobutto.com/

Meanwhile, the browsing of Buttò's work goes well with the new FREE Nine Inch Nails album The Slip. Mr Reznor sounds just like always, but that's good. And "100% Free" is pretty damn good, too. http://theslip.nin.com/
